Truckers looking down their own personal highway to the future are
faced with challenges that previous generations were spared. Tomorrow’s
long haul drivers are very likely to cross our southern borders as our
industry tries to make a seamless nonstop system that will link
destinations like Mexico City, Chicago and Montreal. Computer skills,
including GPS mastery will be vital to truckers. In fact, they are
major players in the game already. The next hurdle will involve
learning new languages. Without proficiency in English and Spanish, and
perhaps some French as well, what could have been a routine delivery can easily turn into a nightmare.

The problem with opening a can of worms is that you can never get all
the worms back in the can. In 1992 President Clinton introduced the
North American Free Trade Agreement, now called NAFTA, to the American
public with the understanding that it would create opportunities in
Mexico for American businessmen and creates jobs here to service our
growing trade with Mexico.

years. The recent hoopla about the “100 Truck Test” being conducted for
one year under a Transportation Dept. program has let loose a flurry of
wild accusations, misinformation and outright lies. Not totally of
course, some reporters have been very even handed, and even honest in
their assessments, but who listens to the voice of reason these days?

The recent tragedy involving the collapse of the bridge over the
Mississippi river in Minneapolis, MN has brought forth a legion of
magicians at every level of government.
