According to an old heathen mythology, there was a fabled river called Acheron which the souls of the dead must cross.Its waters were muddy and bitter, and old Charon, who ferried them over, obliged each one to pay a sum of money for the passage.

Sudden preferment is often followed by unexpected reverses. Often in this life when we expect too much too soon, we become disappointed, and we cannot be blessed nor helped.

There is a community in Western North Carolina called Readapatch. The name is derived from a Circuit Riding preacher who was travelling between churches.

It takes only one drop of water to break the dam. If one drop can get through a crevice, the whole body of water behind the dam can follow.
