as a part of its 2011 Biggest Referral contest

Epes Transport System, a North Carolina-based truckload carrier, recently announced the winners of its 2011 Biggest Referral contest. The company handed out two $5,000 cash prizes and one brand new Chevrolet Silverado truck at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new drivers’ lounge in Greensboro, N.C.

“Our drivers have always been willing to share with other drivers the great opportunities available here at Epes – the place they call home,” said Melissa Davis, Epes director of recruiting. “We are thrilled to be able to thank our drivers in such a big way this year for spreading the word about Epes.”

Drivers Eric Betts, Tim Britt and Donald Washburn tied for first place for having the most referrals during the duration of the contest. Their names were drawn during the ceremony to determine which prize each would receive. Britt won the pickup truck and Betts and Washburn each won $5,000.

Epes Transport is known throughout the industry as a company that takes care of its drivers with its community-based driver culture, weekly home time, substantial benefits and safety bonuses. In addition to the newly opened driver’s lounge, Epes Transport also has a spousal support group that send out weekly newsletters and a comprehensive wellness program which includes a free clinic for drivers, personnel and family dependents.

“Even though Epes has seen a lot of growth and success over the years, we are still able to maintain a thriving small-business oriented atmosphere,” said Davis. “In addition to repeating a similar referral contest next year, there are great things in store for Epes in 2012.”

Epes Transport was recently named Walmart General Merchandise Gold Carrier of the Year and one of the top nominees for the Truckload Carriers Association’s (TCA) Best Fleets to Drive For. The company’s drivers haven’t gone unnoticed either. Epes driver Freddy Bell was chosen as a finalist for the TCA Driver of the Year award and TCA also named driver Marcus Beam as the 2011 Highway Angel of the Year for rescuing a mother and her two children from an overturned vehicle while on the job. Beam was awarded a trophy at the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, Idaho on December 17, 2011.
