Greatwide Logistics Services, a national provider of third-party logistics services, announced today that it had been selected as the winner of the Innovation Award from CHEP. The global leader in pallet and container pooling services presented Greatwide with the honor at its 2010 Supply Chain Symposium recently held in Orlando.

This year CHEP is honoring service center operators and carriers with a Supply Chain Symposium Award in 10 categories in keeping with the theme of the symposium: “All things begin with the customer.” Greatwide received CHEP’s Innovation Award for demonstrating excellence in a service center innovation through enhanced productivity, cost efficiency, quality and safety.
“We are pleased to recognize the top performing organizations and teams for their contributions over the past year,” said Kim Rumph, vice president, plant operations at CHEP USA. Companies like Greatwide “play a critical role in our effort to lower costs in the supply chain and reduce waste in the environment.”

The pallet logistics services that Greatwide provides for CHEP include pallet distribution (shipping and receiving), pallet quality inspection and segregation, pallet heat-treatment and pallet repair/refurbishment services.

“The typical service center that we operate for CHEP is a high speed, highly automated and high precision operation,” said John Simone, president and chief operating officer, Greatwide Logistics Services. “We’re proud of our work with CHEP. Our team has clearly demonstrated how we bring people, process and technology together to add disproportionate value for CHEP’s end customers on a consistent basis over a long period of time.”

American Central Transport Dr

iver Recognized For Helping Stranded Motorist

American Central Transport, Inc. (ACT) has just honored owner operator Mike Kahre for coming to the aid of a fellow motorist while on duty.

On December 17th, 2010, Kahre spotted a car with a blown-out tire stranded on the side of the road just outside of Lamar, Missouri. Its female driver had attempted to retrieve the spare tire from the trunk, only to find that it, too, was flat. No one else was coming to the driver’s aid, who was standing alone on the side of the road in freezing temperatures. Kahre pulled his rig over and offered assistance. Taking the spare tire, he refilled it with air and put it on the driver’s car for her. “I can’t just drive past someone who needs helps,” said Kahre, “I have a wife and three daughters and I would want someone to stop and help them if they ever broke down.”
ACT found out about Kahre’s good deed by chance. As Kahre was working, ACT president, Tom B. Kretsinger, Jr., just happened to drive by and take note of the ACT truck number. Upon returning to the company, he was able to identify Kahre as the Good Samaritan. As a result, the company presented Kahre with an “Atta Boy” award, given to people who go above and beyond the call of duty while on the job. “I’m so glad I was able to witness this act of generosity, because I know things like this happen all the time,” said Kretsinger. “ACT has a really great crew of drivers and they’re too humble to report to us the kind things they do every day.”
“I was really surprised that the company even knew about what I did,” said Kahre. “I like to be of service to others and have always tried to help out whenever I can over the past 30 years.”

Along with his award, Mike Kahre received a gift certificate to the ACT company store. Kahre, a resident of Jasper, MO, and is originally from Lockwood, MO. He and his wife Vina have three daughters and four grandchildren.
