CalArk Names Thomas McCarroll Driver of the Year

CalArk Trucking has chosen Thomas McCarroll as its 2011 Driver of the Year. McCarroll was recognized by CalArk president Rochelle Bartholomew and her father, CalArk founder Thomas Bartholomew, during an employee award luncheon held Thursday, January 19th.

McCarroll, a native of Alexander, Arkansas, has driven for CalArk since March, 2010 as well as from 2004 to 2006. His outstanding service record includes 100% on-time pickup and delivery.

Other drivers recognized during the award presentation include: Anthony Carter of Clarksville, TN for being First Runner Up for Driver of the Year; Johnathan McQueen of Benton, LA for being Second Runner Up for Driver of the Year; Jeffery and Linda Hardy of Mena, AR for being the 2011 Company Team for Most Miles Driven; James Kluth of Grayslake, IL as 2011 Solo Company Driver for Most Miles Driven; and Santiago Reyes of Laredo, TX for 2011 Best Fuel Mileage.

TMC Transportation Honors Louis Steele II With Top Award


TMC Transportation, the largest privately-held flatbed carrier in the nation, recently honored Louis Steele II of Bowling Green, VA with the highest driver honor given by TMC, the Wheel Master Award for 2011.

Steele has been a driver with TMC since 1994. He was also recognized with the Driver of the Quarter Award for the third quarter of 2003. Steele’s dedication to excellence, safety record, productivity and many other outstanding qualities are what made him an ideal recipient. In his nearly 17 years with TMC, Steele has accumulated more than 1.5 million safe miles.

Con-way Truckload Announces Drivers of the Year

Con-way Truckload, a full truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), recently announced its 2011 Drivers of the Year — the company’s highest recognition .

The Driver of the Year winners include solo and team drivers who were named Drivers of the Month in 2011. Award criteria included dedication to safety, professional service and exemplary performance. Con-way Truckload recognized the drivers during an awards ceremony at its Joplin headquarters in early January.

2011 Drivers of the Year:

• Company Driver of the Year, Brian Glover of Lincoln, Neb., joined Con-way Truckload in 2003 and has been driving professionally for 18 years. He began driving with his wife Georgina after serving in the military, and they have two children, Jeanette and Andrew.

• Stockbridge, Ga., resident William Coffman was named Contractor Driver of the Year. He began driving in 1973, and says it is “just something I have always wanted to do.” When not on the road, Coffman enjoys spending time with his wife Nancy, their four children and five grandchildren.

• Company Team of the Year includes Lee Chapman of Oceanside, Calif., and Bernard Richter of San Diego, both of whom began driving as a second career. In his free time, Chapman enjoys restoring classic cars, while Richter’s hobbies include flying, sailing, and spending time with his wife Rosie and their four children.

• Allan and Marian Bruton of Tulsa, Okla., are double award recipients, being recognized for Contractor Team of the Year and for the December Contractor Team of the Month. They began their professional truck driving career with Con-way Truckload in 1988 and have driven more than 4.7 million miles collectively. They have two children, Teresa and Chris.

Each category nominee was recognized and commended, while individual winners were presented with prizes for their achievement: an official Con-way Truckload jacket, a customized award plaque, a personalized Con-way Truckload watch, a cash prize, and an official proclamation from the Missouri State Senate. The Drivers of the Year were also inducted into the Con-way Truckload Hall of Fame.

Central Hauling Names Martinez 2011 Driver of the Year

Central Hauling has selected Luis Martinez as its Driver of the Year for 2011. Central Hauling President Anthony Johnson and Safety Director Carlos Amendariz presented Martinez with a Driver of the Year Plaque during a ceremony in January.

Martinez, who has driven for Central Hauling for four years, is a native of Homestead, FL, where he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren.

Luis Benjamin, a 12-year veteran from Mabelvale, AR,  was also recognized as being first runner up for Driver of the Year Award. Russell (Wayne) Fuller, a 2-year veteran from Louisburg, NC, was second runner up for the honor.

Prime Inc. Honors Contractors Of the Year

Prime inc. recently named its 2011 Contractor of the Year award recipients. This annual award is given to the best drivers in each division for displaying the highest level of service, professionalism, productivity and safety practices. Winners are hand-picked from among each department’s recipients of Prime’s Contractor of the Month awards for the previous year, based on their dedication to safety and several other factors, including mileage, on-time deliveries, driving record, fuel consumption, productivity and customer service.

“Prime’s 2011 Contractors of the Year are some of the top drivers in the industry and a clear example of the hard work and commitment to safety Prime is known for,” said Stan Auman, Prime inc. dispatch manager in the refrigerated division. “These drivers are why Prime enjoys continued success.”

The following individuals were recognized with Prime’s 2011 Contractor of the Year awards:

Refrigerated Division: Independent Team Contractors James Burrow and Jeff Johnson; Company Driver Edgard Lopez; and Company Team Drivers Shane and Johnna Morgan. Flatbed Division: Independent Team Contractors Samuel Gonzales and Michelle Melendez and Company Team Drivers Todd and Virginia Newcomb. Tanker Division: Independent Contractor Clinton L. Brown and Company Driver Andre J. Bryan.

“It is an honor to recognize these drivers as part of the Prime family,” said Auman. “We thank them for their commitment to on-time delivery, fuel efficiency and safety, as well as customer service.”

Each 2011 Contractor of the Year receives a personalized achievement plaque on permanent display in Prime’s Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mo. They also each receive a free Prime jacket, $1,000 cash and a gift certificate for the Prime store.
