Two Truck Drivers in Running for National ‘Carhartt Tough’ Contest

February 1, 2011

Voting to take place from Feb. 1 – 28 at

Truck Drivers, John Irish from West Allis, MN and Bubba Peters from Seattle, WA are two of 12 finalists in the national Are You Carhartt Tough? Contest. Voting will take place through Feb. 28 at, and two grand prize winners will be selected based on the public’s votes.

John works long days as a Truck Driver, delivering shingles to buildings ranging from one to four stories high. John’s tough job takes him up and down rooftops while carrying 100 pound bundles, and his daily routine requires him to lift thousands of pounds of shingles while on steep angles.

Bubba is a Tow Truck Operator whose hard work and courage on the job has kept people from harm’s way.  Through 20-hour shifts in freezing temperatures, Bubba has helped to tow dangling buses off of a bridge so that they would not plummet to the freeway below.  John and Bubba are “Carhartt tough!”

The Are You Carhartt Tough? contest began last February and has generated hundreds of nominations. Each of the 12 quarterly finalists will be featured on the contest’s web site where the public will be encouraged to vote.  Two grand prize winners will be chosen based on public votes.

The contest was created in conjunction with a new partnership between Carhartt, the nation’s leading manufacturer of premium work wear for over 120 years, and Cintas Corporation (Nasdaq:CTAS), North America’s largest uniform supplier, and the roll-out of the new Carhartt Rental Workwear line, which is available exclusively through Cintas (

“This contest is really a reflection of our companies,” says Chuck Helmes, Director of Garment Strategy at Cintas Corporation. “Both Carhartt and Cintas are known for providing tough products and dependable service, and we want to celebrate workers who reflect those same characteristics.”

With Ducks Unlimited acting as media sponsor, contest organizers have reached out to the American workforce to identify people who are strong, dependable, resilient and rugged.  The two grand prizes include a weekend duck hunt trip designed by Ducks Unlimited or a trip for two to The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series in 2011.

The other ten quarterly finalists are:
